It seems like anytime my kitchen is used for cooking it always turns out to be a mess afterward. It’s a warzone full of stains, crumbs, and dishes. While the air fryer, just like my oven and microwave oven, is an exception to the rule it still requires regular maintenance to keep clean and free from bacteria.
If the air fryer isn’t cleaned properly, layers of oil and baked-on grease will start to accumulate.
Trust me, you don’t want that to happen. It is, therefore, important to clean the air fryer regularly. This leads us to the question:
Are air fryers and air fryer parts dishwasher safe? Yes, the air fryer’s removable components, such as the basket, the divider, and the pan are safe to put in the dishwasher but the main unit shouldn’t be placed in the dishwasher as it contains electronics, instead, clean it using a damp cloth and soap if needed. Once washed, the components need to dry completely before placing them in the air fryer.
Cleaning your air fryer components in the dishwasher is an alternative to washing them by hand. There’s one thing to keep in mind and that’s the component’s non-stick coating which may flake or peel completely if they aren’t cleaned with care.
Using non-abrasive soap and non-metal sponges and brushes is essential to the component’s health.
Which Air Fryer Brands Are Safe To Put In The Dishwasher?
The majority of the air fryers on the market come with dishwasher-safe components. But if you’re anything like me, then you like to be certain of things before you actually proceed with the task at hand, and all this to minimize the risk of making a big mistake.
For you, I have created a table of all the air fryers which are (according to the manufacturer) safe to put in the dishwasher. Now, remember, when I say that the air fryer is safe to put in the dishwasher I’m actually talking about the removable components, mainly the basket.
How Should I Wash My Air Fryer In the Dishwasher?
The air fryer’s components can be washed in the dishwasher just like you would wash any other dish. Just make sure that the parts aren’t sizzling hot when you place them in the dishwasher.
The air fryer’s basket may take up a lot of space in the dishwasher and is, generally, best placed in the bottom-drawer of the dishwasher. The pan and the divider aren’t quite as big as the basket and can, therefore, be placed in both the bottom and top drawer of the dishwasher.
These parts can be cleaned with the same type of dishwashing liquids that you would otherwise use for your dishes. For tougher stains, such as baked-on grease, you would think that the answer would be to purchase some kind of special detergent but it isn’t.
Instead, try running the component through a cycle in the dishwasher and if that doesn’t work let the component soak in warm water and soap before you softly scrub the surface with a soft sponge.
If you still can’t get the air fryer as clean as you would want it to be, then I recommend you check out my in-depth guide on how to clean every part of the air fryer – as easily as possible. The guide includes more manual methods of cleaning the air fryer, while this article focuses on the dishwasher.
Now then, back to the topic.
Lastly, once the components have been washed – it is important that you let them dry off completely before you put them back in the air fryer.
Because the air fryer doesn’t handle liquids very well, we don’t want to leave the wet parts to drip inside the air fryer as it may cause it to malfunction. Remember; the air fryer is an electronic device but its removable components are rarely electronic.
Which Air Fryer Brands Are Dishwasher-Safe?
Here’s the information I was able to gather from each manufacturer’s website and the products Amazon listing regarding the topic.
Remember, I’m only talking about the components – the main unit is not and will probably never be safe to put in the dishwasher – just the basket, tray, pan or any other accessory used to hold the ingredients.
Even if your model isn’t listed in the table below, it may still be dishwasher-safe but the information may not be available online. If you’re unsure about it I recommend that you get in contact with the customer service – they will most likely have the answer to your question.

How Often Can I Wash My Air Fryer in the Dishwasher?
When it comes to having a clean kitchen, I’m a full-on preacher. The thought of cooking for my family in an appliance that is dirty doesn’t appeal to me at all, and considering how easy air fryers are to clean I can’t justify not doing it.
With that said, I don’t put my air fryer components in the dishwasher after every single time I’ve used them. Sometimes, depending on what type of food I’m cooking, it may be easier to just wipe the components, including the inside of the air fryer and the drawer with a paper towel.
Sometimes, if you don’t add oil, the air fryer basket won’t need much of a clean-up. However, if you’re cooking battered foods you will most likely need to place them in the dishwasher or soak them in warm water and soap in order to get rid of the grease.
Keeping your air fryer clean prevents disease and is, therefore, quite important if you ask me.
But there are no strict guidelines, I try to clean my air fryer after every use but the method used changes. That’s what I would recommend to anyone using an air fryer, too.
Will the Dishwasher Remove Baked-on Grease From My Air Fryer?
Sometimes, but it depends on how long the baked-on grease has been sitting on the basket, and how many layers of grease you’ve accumulated. The dishwasher will remove most of the stains and dirt but you may have to use the baking soda-method to remove tougher stains that stay on even after a cycle in the dishwasher.
The baking soda method is a simple technique.
- You need baking soda and water
- Add just enough water to the baking soda to create a paste.
- Smear the paste on to the air fryer component’s stains
- Gently scrub the stain using a sponge or cloth
- Rinse
- Dry
Summary
Most brands have dishwasher-safe baskets and pans, the drawer is, in some cases, dishwasher-safe but you should be really sure about it before you place the actual drawer in the dishwasher. Make sure to clean your air fryer as often as possible. Not only will this keep bacteria away, but it will also make your air fryer much easier to clean.
Stains and grease that is left on the air fryer will toughen and demand much more work to get rid of.
Good luck with your air fryer, I hope this article has been helpful.
