How Do You Reheat a Chipotle Burrito?

A Chipotle burrito can have almost any type of filling you can think of. The way in which you reheat your burrito depends on what you chose to add to your burrito. This will also likely impact how it tastes after you reheat it.

Generally, the best way to reheat your burrito is to start by opening it. If you are able to, remove any cold ingredients from the wrapper. This includes things that taste better when they are not warmed up. Such as sour cream, guacamole, and fresh vegetables.

If you choose to bake or fry, make sure you use oil without a lot of flavors. If you select the oven, you can use olive oil. But, this is not recommended if you fry your burrito either on the stove or in a fryer.

Make sure you use high-heat oil for frying your burrito. And, place it on a paper towel as soon as you finish to soak up the excess oil. But, the specifics vary based on what heating method you select.

How To Reheat a Chipotle Burrito In the Microwave

To reheat your Chipotle burrito in the microwave, start by opening it and removing any cold ingredients. The microwave usually warms a food item from the inside out, which works out well for heating the insides of a burrito.

The negative of using your microwave is it does not create the crisp exterior people love. But, it will create a generally uniformly warmed and melted experience.

  • Remove the foil wrap from the outside of the burrito, aluminum foil is never microwave-safe.
  • If the tortilla is dry and stale, moisten by sprinkling a little water on top, but be careful not to make the shell too wet.
  • Place the burrito on a microwave-safe dish and place the dish in the center of the microwave.
  • Use high heat for a minute to reheat the burrito.
  • Open the microwave to rotate the burrito upside down, then cook for another minute.
  • Allow the burrito to rest for one minute to evenly distribute the heat.
  • Insert a thermometer into the center of the burrito to check if the internal temperature reached 165 degrees Fahrenheit or 74 degrees Celsius.
  • Repeat the microwaving process to make sure that all parts are fully reheated.
  • Lastly, remove the burrito from the microwave and wait for it to be the right temperature to eat.

Just be sure you cut some form of a hole or incision into your burrito. This is because if you have a burrito in the microwave the heat will build up inside the burrito and could potentially burst from the pressure.

How To Reheat a Chipotle Burrito In the Toaster Oven

The toaster oven is a quick and convenient way to reheat your burrito while maintaining its crunch.

  • To reheat your burrito in the toaster oven, start by unwrapping it from the foil
  • Remove any cold ingredients and store in a separate container until you finish heating it
  • If your toaster oven has a tray, you can unwrap the burrito itself as well
  • Turn the toaster setting on high (around 400 degrees Fahrenheit, or 204 degrees celcius)
  • Place you burrito in the toaster oven on the tray
  • Allow it to heat for 10-12 minutes or until it is warm

The issue with the toaster oven, as with the oven, is it cooks from the outside in. This means it may become too crispy on the outside before the interior is warmed.

If you notice the exterior is burning, but the interior is still cold, you can try unwrapping your burrito or cutting it in half. This will allow some of the heat to enter the burrito.

Or, you can microwave it for 30-45 seconds and then place it in the toaster oven. This will allow the interior to warm properly, but will also give you a nice crispy exterior.

How To Reheat a Chipotle Burrito In the Oven

Reheating your chipotle burrito in the oven is very similar to the method of reheating it in a toaster oven. The primary differences are the time it takes to cook, the amount of crisp you’re likely to get, and the temperature variations.

  • Remove the foil wrap from the outside of the burrito, aluminum foil will impede the crisping of the burrito
  • Open your burrito wrap and remove as many of the cold ingredients as you can
  • Put these ingredients aside and place your opened burrito on a baking sheet or oven-safe dish
  • Preheat your oven to 450 degrees (232 degrees Celcius) and drizzle a little oil over the exterior of the burrito
  • Bake for 5-6 minutes and stir the ingredients halfway through the baking process

Adding oil is not necessary, but it is recommended. It will prevent burning and encourage the burrito wrap to crisp up.

How To Reheat a Chipotle Burrito On the Stovetop

The stovetop is a great way to recreate the crisp exterior of the burrito wrap. But, be careful how hot the oil becomes while you cook it.

  • Remove the foil wrap from the outside of the burrito, aluminum foil will impede the crisping of the burrito
  • Preheat your skillet for 2 minutes on high heat
  • Add 1-2 tablespoons of high-heat oil to the skillet (don’t preheat oil, add oil once you’re read to cook)
  • Prep your burrito by removing cold ingredients and opening it
  • Place the burrito in the skillet and store cold ingredients on the side
  • Heat on high heat for 6-8 minutes
  • Stir it throughout the cooking time to prevent burns

Preventing burning is the hardest part of stovetop reheating. To prevent this, avoid preheating your oil and try turning down the temperature if your burrito is burning.

How To Reheat a Chipotle Burrito in an Air Fryer

An air fryer is a better choice for reheating your Chipotle burrito than a deep fryer. A deep fryer will most likely cause you to have an unpleasantly greasy burrito that might still be cold inside. The air fryer will make a crisp exterior and warm interior.

  • Preheat your air fryer to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (176 degrees Celcius)
  • Remove the foil wrap from the outside of the burrito, aluminum foil will impede the crisping of the burrito
  • Remove the cold contents from your burrito wrap
  • Lightly drizzle oil over your burrito
  • Place the burrito in the air fryer basket and place it in the air fryer
  • Move the ingredients carefully while it cooks to prevent burning
  • Let it heat for 5-7 minutes

Be careful to keep the burrito wrap intact when removing the cold ingredients. This will prevent the ingredients from falling into the air fryer’s bottom and burning.

Can You Reheat and Eat a Burrito the Next Day?

Yes, you can eat and reheat a burrito the next day. Actually, you can reheat and eat a burrito safely for up to 3 days after getting it, as long as you keep it in the refrigerator.

The taste after the first day in the fridge will not be as good the longer it is in there. Additionally, the burrito itself will start to be rather soggy and unpleasant due to its moist contents.

You can also store your burrito in the freezer for 3 months without the flavor being greatly impacted. Make sure you wrap it in parchment paper and store it in a freezer-safe bag. If you have guacamole in your burrito though, do not try freezing it since it will become very grainy in texture.

How Should You Store a Chipotle Burrito?

The best way to store your Chipotle burrito in the fridge is in an airtight container. This container will help prevent any scents or lingering flavors in your fridge from impacting the taste of the burrito.

Likewise, it will also prevent the scent and flavor of the burrito from impacting other foods in your fridge.

You can also store your burrito in plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Wrap your burrito tightly and place it on a plate to prevent it from getting wet from condensation in the fridge.

This is a good method and largely prevents the burrito from becoming impacted by the scents in the fridge.

Storing your burrito in a zip lock bag is a good method as well. But, it is not as good as an airtight container.

Can You Microwave a Burrito in Foil?

You should avoid microwaving your burrito in foil. This is because metal is not a safe substance to place in the microwave. The FDA responded to a recent internet fad of boiling eggs in the microwave in foil with a harrowing video

The FDA explained that microwaves are not a safe place to use metal since the heat currents in the microwave are electrically charged.

The electrical charges react with the metal since metal is one of the best conductors of electricity.

As a result, the food may catch fire in the microwave and potentially break your microwave. Do not use foil to heat your burrito in the microwave. Preferably, unwrap your burrito and place it on a microwave-safe vessel before you heat it.
